Western Cape Municipality Council Chamber

A new 400-seat council chamber created within a hollowed-out, remodelled Brutalist podium on Cape Town's Foreshore, reworking an inherited civic building for a democratic era.

The chamber is suspended on a steel platform inside the existing structure and pierced by a dramatic central steel cone that rises through the roof, filling the space with natural light.

The intervention keeps the mass and presence of the original podium while transforming its interior into a luminous, publicly significant civic room.
